Metallica Death Magnetic Review As many of you know I have been a follower of Metallica since late grade school after I saw the video of One on MTV. I do feel sorry for musicians today, especially the ones who get a large followings early in the career because it becomes increasingly hard for them to experiment with their sound. With the release of the Black Album Metallica did become more mainstream or radio friendly then I think they lost direction with Load and Reload. Don't get me wrong both Load and Reload had some decent songs on there but over all it wasn't as powerful as Ride the Lighting and Master of Puppets. Many people really hated St. Anger but I did really enjoy it myself. If I had to describe Death Magnetic in a single phrase I would say it is a cross between Justice for All and the Black Album. Metallica defiantly has found some of their old grove with this album and producer Rick Rubin was able to guide them back on track. There are a couple tracks that kind of take you back to the Load era, but even most of those, such as "The Day That Never Comes" speeds up towards the end. Track 6 "Cyanide" is one of my favorites right now with a killer base track and "That Was Just Your Life" is a great start to the Album. - END - |
