Metallica "St. Anger" Review

This is not "old" Metallica, and it is deffently not "new" Metallica. This is "RAW" "PRIMAL" METALLICA!
Of course the Metallica fan I am I bought the album the day it came out, ran to my car stuck it in the CD player…and thought, "What the hell is this crap?" Word of warning, this does not sound like any other Metallica album yet. It took me a couple of turns to get into it, but I have to say it is now probably my favorite Metallica studio release yet.
First, Lars has turned his snare off so you get a baser, ringing sound with the drums. A lot of people will not like this, but a feel it gives it more of a primal sound to the music. James has also experimented with his vocals a little more. He does a little screaming, and rapping that adds a new dimension to the sound. The one thing that I do not practically like about this one is the guitar riffs are more subtle then previous recordings. You might also have to adjust the tone on your radio a bit to get the full sound.
One other goodie that comes with this CD is it has a DVD of the band playing each song. It is defiantly a good extra that not a lot of other bands do. I do have to say again this is a sound that will grow on you. I heard a lot of people say they didn't like it the first time, I know I didn't.
