Dave Matthews Band "EVERYDAY" Review Well, under intense pressure from Alex, and after hearing the constant complaints about the new Dave Matthews album, I have decided to throw in my two cents worth. While I must admit that Everyday is different from many of Dave's past albums, I do not agree with what appears to be the popular opinion that he has departed from his original style. In fact, much of the first half of the album seems to me to ring true to his style. My favorite song on Everyday, "The Space Between", is as good as any song Dave has on his other albums. I do concur that there is obviously more electric guitar and synthesized sound to be heard in Everyday, the songs are not "a total loss" and definitely do not make the album "not worth buying" as I have read some fan reviews say. Every artist is entitled to experiment with his or her creativity and it has disappointed me that Dave fans have been so quick to write this album and Dave off. While different, I still enjoy almost all of Everyday, and like all of Dave's albums the more I listen to it, the more I like it. There are only two songs on Everyday that I do not particularly care for, "Sleep To Dream Her" and Mother Father. "Sleep To Dream Her" is too mellow and soft for me, and Mother Father has a Latino sound to it which I do not care for. Overall, I would to say that Everyday is very much worth buying and listening to as any other Dave Matthews album. Just be prepared for a slightly different sound and be open-minded to it, I think you'll still find much enjoyment in his music. After all, if I had gone with my first instinct when I heard my first Dave Matthews album, I wouldn't be the fan I am today. - END - |
