Corydon Battle Park & Reenactment July 7, 2007
Ryan and I went to the bi-annual reenactment of the Battle of Corydon along they
was we also stopped at the battle park. John Hunt Morgan with about 2,500 cavalry
went on a raid through Kentucky, Indiana, and Ohio in the summer of 1863 where on
July 9th of that year he met Corydon's home guard and civilians on a defensive line
just south of town. The Home Guard was able to hold them off for about twenty minutes
until both ends of their line were flanked easily by Morgan's cavalry.
Morgan then fired a couple artillery rounds into town which turned it into a
route. He spent the night in town before leaving the next morning on his way to
Ohio. Corydon has a Battle Park set up on part of the line of battle with some
artifacts and markers from the battle and raid.
Note - I will try on give a little description of each of the Battle Park pictures as
I get the time.
